ARTIST: ROB DOBI
Rob Dobi makes the decomposing architecture of old asylums, industrial plants, hotels, and other forgotten places look vibrant and beautiful.
He has a great eye for finding interesting compositions in the most unlikely of places. Dobi's use of the Principles and Elements of Art are outstanding. He is able to highlight the silence that these buildings long forgotten embrace, able to capture a passing moment in time and create dramatic works of art by simply embracing the use of the Principles and Elements of Art.

Example Visual Analysis of the above artwork:
“Unknown” (2001) By Rob Dobi is a Digital photograph. “Unknown” (2001) depicts an image of an old abandon room, that is primarily full of black mould, forming a formal pattern through the room. Block like rectangular shapes vertically scale each wall within Rob Dobi’s artwork. These protruding rectangles are repeated around the walls of the room and are complied of a black sticky like texture, a strong contrast against the sterile beige walls of this deserted room. Rob Dobi uses the repetition of these striking broken shapes comprised of black sticky texture to draw the viewers eye around the room, bringing our attention as the viewer to the space as a whole rather then one particular aspect. Rob Dobi’s desire for our attention to remain in the space as an entirety is reinforced through his use of a formally closed compositional technique. The wide camera angle taken flat against one wall of the room, allows us to see the majority of the room through a one point perspective. Meaning the subject is contained within the closed parameters of the photograph. While the door situation is the far left corner of the room alludes to fact there is more aspects to the building of which this room is situated within, Rob Dobi hasn’t created a particular focal point on this door, it seemingly blends into the repeated rectangle shapes comprised of a black sticky texture. It is for this reason one would denote that Rob Dobi has a used a formal and closed composition along side deliberate use of shape, contrast, texture and repetition to create interest in this abandoned room.
